Today the whole group headed over to the PRU to hand over the project to the school. We had first arranged to spend some time with the primary children so we could plant the seeds in the allotment. We worked with the teacher and three of the children from the primary school to talk about the garden and plant the seeds. We all thoroughly enjoyed working with the children and hope they will enjoy watching the vegetables grow and using them in their lunches. We then enjoyed a sunny afternoon sat in the garden area with the secondary school children speaking about their experience at the PRU. We really enjoyed sat talking with the children and listening to their future aspirations and where they hope to be. We also spoke about the garden and were all humbled by the responses the children gave us about the garden and how they were benefitting from using the area we had made. We were then treated to a lovely lunch made by the school as a thank you for what we had done. The whole group could not believe the response that we had received and how much impact our project had on the children and staff at the school. When the project first started we were all wondering how our plans for the garden would impact the children and leave a lasting legacy, now that the garden in finished we could not be prouder of ourselves and how we have impacted the daily lives of the children and staff that work hard and deserve an area where they can take the children and enjoy time outside. We hope they continue to use and enjoy the area especially in the upcoming summer months.

We would also like to again thank everyone for their kind donations and help in supporting us in making our design and ideas come to life. The impact it has had on the children and the responses we have received are beyond what we could have ever imagined and could not have done it without everyone’s support and encouragement.

Here are some quotes from the children:

"I love it. I want to stay out there all day. Our plants are growing well" - Calvin (Age 8).

"It looks fine. It could be fun. I liked making the peas rain" - Oliver (Age 8).

"I like the little planty area. The little play house is great for hide and seek - I like the shape of it and it makes lovely shadows under the trees." - Jayden (Age 7).

"I like the colours of the tyres" - Lewis (Age 9).
